The number of translations of Brazilian literature in Spain is still too smallcompared with other literatures. Except for Jorge Amado, and, above all, Paulo Coelho,Brazilian writers are little known in our country. Analyzing the reasons of this invisibility,we consider several variables such as the difficulty of translating into Spanishthe exoticism and subtleties of Brazilian literary language, the absence of a policy ofcultural exportation in Brazil and the little space devoted to promote Brazilian literature in Spain. Through Nélida Piñon’s and Guimarães Rosa’s view on translation, werevise some aspects of the translation from Brazilian Portuguese into Spanish. As wellas presenting the cartography of Brazilian literature in Spain, we deal with the currentmeasures adopted in Brazil and in Spain in order to develop specific policies aimed tosupport and spread Brazilian culture and literature..
